A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami Dade County Leader.

It might not have been at the equivalent scale as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued since the onset of a second term in office.

“Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a prosperous future without fear.”

The gathering, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The swine, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the current slang trend of young people shouting “six seven” – originating from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently named “six-seven” its top term for the year.

A New Life

The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to open the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It represents the character of Miami: happy, varied, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Every time, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”

Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
