Adult Swim's Leading Fresh Series of 2025 Gets a Major Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.

In October of last year, Adult Swim welcomed back its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, shortly thereafter, the network unveiled a completely new animated series with a markedly softer tone. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. At a time often defined by cynicism, this show's sincerity resonated deeply and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

On December 18th, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The series centers on three respectful teenage brothers whose primary trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

A President's Endorsement

In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who discovered the show and advocated for its uniquely offbeat sensibility.

"All of you got behind this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something unexpectedly cozy about watching this charming family navigate their daily lives.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa shared his hope to help comedy break out of its current sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” noted Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

What Comes Next

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa could potentially help usher in that comedic shift. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences more opportunities to experience the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is available for streaming on HBO Max.
