Arne Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Has The Club's Support After PSV Humiliation
Arne Slot admitted that it was natural for questions to be asked about his future after a further convincing defeat against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in 12 games, representing the club's poorest streak after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a tough night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I have got plenty of support from above,” the coach stated.
“It's important to turn it around and earn three points naturally but if you are in a managerial role and underperforming then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my situation. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Talks with The Board
Upon being questioned to provide details on his dialogues with the team officials, the head coach explained:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me every single minute each day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “In the normal conversations we have I sense the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game yet so let’s see.”
Persistent Problems and Squad Reaction
Slot lamented known shortcomings from his squad in their European defeat, specifically poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones stated.
“It is not good enough. I don't need to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the phrases.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a spell like this with outcomes this poor.”
He stated, “However we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And until that badge is gone, we'll continue to battle.”
“We’re going to try to get this team back to its rightful place, prove again what this club is about and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
