One of the original creators of the famous frozen dessert company Ben and Jerry's has announced that parent company Unilever stopped the introduction for an innovative Palestine-themed ice cream flavor.

The entrepreneur, who co-founded the company with Jerry Greenfield, revealed how he plans to independently develop the controversial product as part of a personal series highlighting issues Ben & Jerry's has been barred from speaking out about.

Ongoing Conflict Involving Creators and Parent Company

This latest development intensifies the ongoing tension between the world-famous dessert company and Unilever, the British packaged goods giant that has owned Ben & Jerry's since 2000.

The co-founders have claimed how Unilever and its ice cream arm Magnum improperly prevented their company from "fulfilling its ethical commitments".

Watermelon Sorbet becoming a Symbol for Support

The entrepreneur announced via social media that he is creating an innovative watermelon-flavored frozen dessert, asking for consumer ideas regarding the product's name plus potential ingredients.

“I'm doing what they couldn't,” Mr. Cohen declared from his kitchen. “I'm creating a watermelon-flavored frozen dessert that advocates for lasting ceasefire for Palestinians while demanding repairing the damage that was done there.”

This particular fruit has become a symbol of support for Palestinians due to its colors, which match the colors in the Palestinian flag – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Historical Activism plus Current Changes

In 2021, Ben & Jerry's refused to sell its products in territories occupied by Israel, resulting in the parent company selling their Israel business over to an Israeli distributor, thereby permitting continued sales in disputed territories.

This upcoming product line will be developed under Ben's Best, the socially conscious dessert company that originally created several years back to support ex- US presidential candidate Senator Sanders with the flavor "Bernie's Return".

Leadership Shifts and Upcoming Intentions

Mr. Cohen indicated how he will create other ice cream flavors focusing on issues which Ben & Jerry's was prevented from speaking about openly due to corporate restrictions.

The announcement follows partner Jerry Greenfield resigned his position at Ben & Jerry's recently, following many years of involvement, citing worries that its independence was compromised following Unilever's decision to restrict its social activism.

At that time, Ben Cohen commented that “My partner has strong compassion and this conflict with Unilever was deeply distressing him."

"My heart compels me to keep working inside the company to fight for its independence so that the company can achieve the social mission, the values that it was founded on while upholding for over 40 years," he explained to journalists.
