England Coach Tim Southee Unsure on The Ashes Participation

Tim Southee

Tim Southee's most recent Test for New Zealand was against England in December 2024.

England fast-bowling advisor Southee is currently evaluating the extent of his role will be at the upcoming Ashes contest in Australia.

The former Kiwi pace bowler is only likely to be available for the first Test because of his involvement in the International League T20 competition, which starts on December 2 in the UAE.

Southee, 36, assumed a role as England's fast bowling consultant in the warmer months after claiming 391 scalps in 107 Test matches for the Kiwis.

Speaking as the English squad for the first of three T20 matches against the Kiwis was announced, he said of his participation: "We're still working through the situation at the moment.

"We will determine what happens over the next little while."

English bowling legend Broad had declared the Australia team as their "weakest squad since 2010", but the consultant was in little doubt over what to expect during the series, which starts on November 21.

"In my view there's at any time a poor Australian cricket team," Southee said.

"The team's attention is firmly on our own objectives. In my opinion the quality of [England's] team that's going out to Australia is brilliant.

"It should be an thrilling encounter, that series. Not just [are|do] fans from both nations looking forward to it, I believe the whole cricket world is."

But, prior to England head to Perth for the first Ashes match, they take on the Kiwis in Christchurch on this Saturday.
