President Trump Calls Families of Attacked Guard Soldiers to White House
Former President Donald Trump stated on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the loved ones of a Guard member fatally shot last week to come to the presidential home.
He noted that he spoke to her family and they were “heartbroken”.
Information on the Tragic Event
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was lost her life in a shooting on last Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her fellow service member, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Vigils across West Virginia have taken place in their memory.
White House Call
The president explained he’s talked about a meeting at the presidential residence for the loved ones of both soldiers of the state National Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a hard experience, arrive at the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” the president addressed journalists. “And in the same way with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”
Public Reaction
Community members gathered over the past few days at Webster County high school in the state to pay respects to Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been fulfilling duties with the military unit as part of the president’s federal initiative to assist public safety in the capital.
Honoring the Soldier
“She was the kind of student that instructors wished for. She conducted herself with calm resilience, a warm expression and a upbeat demeanor that inspired people around her,” the principal, the principal of her former high school, informed the media. “She was kind, compassionate and always willing to assist people.”
Funeral plans for Sarah are yet to be finalized.
Legal Steps and Government Changes
Authorities have accused a 29-year-old Afghan national with a charge of murder and charges of violent assault while armed.
The incident caused the government to pause asylum applications and cease providing visas to possessors of travel documents.
Status of Andrew Wolfe
Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, began his service in 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, according to the AP.
He remains under medical supervision and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia leader the governor said on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer the attorney general told Fox News Sunday that she aimed to speak to Wolfe’s family.
Legacy of Beckstrom
Sarah, from her hometown, completed her education from her high school in mid-2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a law enforcement officer with honor, as stated by the state guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she absolutely had fortitude,” he told the crowd at the memorial. “Though her life ended too soon, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
