The New Animated Series' Opening Sequence Selected the Wrong Critical Role Song
The Mighty Nein, the most recent animated adventure from Critical Role, unveiled a new introductory sequence. It showcases our favorite group of outcasts, outcasts, and criminals fighting hard and making their mark, while teasing at multiple heart-wrenching personal histories for key figures including Liam O'Brien's mage Caleb, and Travis Willingham's orc warlock, Fjord.
All in all, the opening looks stunning. However, I felt that an element was lost in the music selection.
The intro employs "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional composition created by artist the talented musician. This piece originating from the official score of that title, the second release put out by Critical Role Productions LLC's record label Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a wonderful sentimental choice, and I suspect that devotees of the sequel series will appreciate its inclusion.
Personally, The series' opening fails to capture the excitement and excitement that accompanied the show's actual-play adventure. "It's Your Turn", written by musician the artist, was an instant classic in my view when it was initially unveiled in that year, and it only got better when cast member the performer wrote words to the melody for the series' animated intro in 2018.
Including singing from Ashley Johnson, another performer, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the track was memorable and fun. Back then, I hadn't seen the second campaign yet, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my device. It's a song that excites you before you start an episode of fantasy hijinks.
The Mighty Nein's opening with "Welcome to Wildemount" fails to hit the right notes for me. It's a grand piece of music, but based on my understanding of this party, I feel that its mood is a little off.
Of course, Critical Role has already said that the series will have a few changes and differences from the original live sessions. A tonal change for its intro seems to be one of them.
The Mighty Nein will be available to watch on Prime Video from November 19. For those eager until then, or want a head start to learn about the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are available on Spotify and YouTube.
